Meaningful Mark
A series of 5 "drawings" that emphasize different type sof mark-making. (1) Soap mixed with paint, (2) ash, (3) paint with a thin sheet of plastic on top, (4) holes from fire, (5) paint dripping.

2 x 3 x 4
Four sets of three images for a total of 12 small works. Each of these must be the same size, must be square, and must be made with the same medium. The strict limitations in this project are put in place in order to make the artist focus as much as possible on the interrelations of the elements used – the explore the vast possible meanings, experiences and visual revelations that color produces.

Scales
In my painting class, we practiced mixing a perfect gradient in gray and in any color of our choosing. We used the scale to complete a small transparency study: paint two squares overlapping and switch which square is on top. Next, we painted two still lifes: one in gray scale and one in monochrome.

Complimentary Geometric Transparencies
Using a pair of complimentary colors, I was assigned to use various geometric shapes that overlap and give the illusion that they are transparent. Additionally, we were only allowed to use the primary colors + white.

Colorful Still Life
Since my art classes were still conducted via Zoom, my painting class used items in our own homes to create a still life set up. I incorporated a mask to represent the time frame in which this piece was painted.

November 2020
Transparency Still Life
Using the skills we have developed in the previous projects, my class was then instructed to create a still life that incorporated transparent elements: at least one with water and one without water.

November 2020
Self Portrait
To introduce us into painting the figure, my painting class created self portraits. We were instructed to sit in front of a mirror while we painted instead of looking at a picture of ourselves.

The Figure
Two painting studies on the nude figure to prepare us for our final project.

One Point Perspective
This was a free assignment in which we just needed to make a painting with one point perspective. I wanted to challenge myself, so I added a surrealism element.

Nude Model
For our final project, my class painted the figure live on Zoom. We had two class sessions to get the main details of the models figure. After those two sessions, we relied on memory. We had some creative liberty, so I took inspiration from Kehinde Wiley and made the subject appear to be immersed in a bright, repetitive background.
